Our composting experiment has turned smelly!
According to the internet, this means that there are not enough "browns" in our mixture, although my wise wife reckons that we just need to add some dirt. I also suspect that stirring it up every day to get air in (given the holelessness of our bins) is actually preventing the bugs from really getting going.
We've currently got three smelly old bins, and two with newer waste in. So we're doing an experiment: we put dirt in one, shredded newspaper in another, and dry leaves in the last. I'll stir them up only twice a week instead of every day, and we'll see, after a few days or a week, how the odours are going.
